History of a patient with FGM. Gynecomastia.
NewsA 64-year-old man turned to the Women's Health Clinic of the MCSC. He complained of a painful lump in his left breast. In addition, he had concomitant diseases: hypertension, type 2 diabetes and prostate adenoma.
On examination, it turned out that the left mammary gland was enlarged in size, and a dense, painful, mobile formation of about 4 cm in size was determined by palpation. At the same time, the axillary lymph nodes were not enlarged. But to determine the diagnosis, it was necessary to perform a number of studies.
First, the patient underwent digital mammography in two standard projections. In the left gland behind the nipple, the formation of an irregular shape with dimensions of 50x38 mm and sometimes indistinct contours was determined. No pathology was found in the right breast.

Then an ultrasound of the mammary glands was performed, as a result of which an irregular formation was revealed, measuring 35x19x20 mm and with increased blood flow, but without pathology in the axillary lymph nodes. As a result, the doctor made a preliminary conclusion: a nodular form of gynecomastia on the left.

At the final stage of the diagnosis, a fine-needle aspiration biopsy of liquid inclusions and a trepan biopsy of the tissue areas of the formation were performed. The results of cyto-and histological studies allowed us to confirm the diagnosis: nodular form of gynecomastia with focal granulomatous inflammation. In accordance with the recommendations of our specialists, the patient underwent planned surgical treatment. Now he feels well and is recovering successfully.
Gynecomastia is an increase in the amount of breast tissue in men caused by an imbalance of the hormones estrogen and testosterone. Gynecomastia can affect one or both mammary glands, and sometimes unevenly.
Newborns, boys going through puberty, and older men are prone to developing gynecomastia as a result of physiological changes in hormone levels. Although today other reasons are also known: taking certain medications, the presence of concomitant diseases, etc.
