Echocardiography in the modern diagnosis of valvular heart defects (36 hours)

Relevance. Currently, echocardiography is the fastest, most accessible and highly informative method of instrumental diagnosis of heart pathology. The development of the method, the emergence and introduction of new technologies in echocardiography (the emergence of new sensors, modes, technological improvements) has led to a significant improvement in the quality of the images obtained, the expansion of the use of this diagnostic method. At the same time, new data on interventional surgical methods for the treatment of valvular heart disease have accumulated and the corresponding new recommendations of the European Society of Cardiology and the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery have been published. After a clinical examination, echocardiography is the key method used to verify the diagnosis of valvular heart defects, assess the morphology and function of the valves, as well as to assess the severity of the defects, prognosis, feasibility, and indications for a specific intervention. It should be performed and interpreted by a properly trained specialist with up-to-date knowledge of echocardiography.
As a result of training in this cycle, students will receive modern ideas about the integrated approach and the possibilities of echocardiography in determining the severity of valvular stenosis and regurgitation, as well as indications for surgical treatment, in accordance with modern recommendations for echocardiography.

Within the framework of the educational program doctors:

  1. they will study the current requirements for the diagnosis of valvular heart disease, including various echocardiographic criteria.
  2. they will study the indications for surgical interventions in various valvular pathologies.
  3. they will study the epidemiology, morphology, and classification of mitral valvular heart defects, and will study and quantify them using Doppler analysis.
  4. they will study the epidemiology, morphology, classification of aortic valvular heart defects, and conduct a quantitative assessment of aortic defects using Dopplerography.
  5. they will analyze echocardiographic observations after valve interventions, identify possible delayed complications or degenerative changes in artificial valves.
