Echocardiography. Assessment of the structure and function of the heart chambers in normal and pathological conditions (36 hours)

Relevance. Modern echocardiography is in the first place among all methods of visualization of the heart. This method has undergone major changes associated with the advent of modern digital devices, improved sensors and modes, improved image quality, and the development of high-tech diagnostic methods. The main echocardiographic parameters were standardized and recommendations were issued for the quantitative assessment of the structure and function of the heart chambers. Updated recommendations for the management of arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, valvular heart disease, infectious endocarditis and other heart diseases, including in the relevant sections related to echocardiographic diagnostics. Recommendations on dispensary follow-up of patients with cardiovascular diseases have been published. Echocardiography is now performed at different stages of the examination of patients, including in emergency conditions. All this requires the training and regular improvement of a sufficient number of specialists with modern knowledge and skills in conducting echocardiography.

As part of the program, students will learn:

  1. current recommendations for assessing the size and function of the left and right chambers of the heart, assessing diastolic function;
  2. the possibilities of transthoracic echocardiography in the diagnosis of coronary heart disease and its complications;
  3. modern echocardiographic criteria for hypertension and its complications, as well as differential diagnosis with other diseases and conditions leading to myocardial hypertrophy,
  4. changes in the right chambers of the heart against the background of pulmonary pathology and pulmonary embolism and will conduct a differential diagnosis of these diseases.
