In Moscow, the number of plasma cylinders increased by 82% in November.

In November, the number of plasma donors with antibodies to the coronavirus increased by 82%. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development Anastasia Rakova.

"Every day in the capital there are more and more people who, thanks to the help of doctors, were safely cured of a new coronavirus infection. In November, 2,645 people already donated blood plasma with antibodies to the coronavirus – this is 82% more than a month earlier, when the number of donors was 1,453. In total, more than 6.7 thousand residents of the capital became plasma donors after recovering from COVID-19, and 12.6% of them donated blood repeatedly. This is a really important matter, because each such donation can help save the life and health of two or three patients, " the vice-mayor said.

The use of donor plasma with antibodies to coronavirus was approved as one of the methods used in the complex of therapy for the treatment of coronavirus infection by the Clinical Committee for COVID-19 in October this year. Earlier, starting in April, the method was used as an experimental one in several hospitals.

Plasma treatment is used in hospitals for patients with moderate to severe disease. The method is one of the components of complex therapy and is prescribed exclusively by the attending physician. According to some estimates, for hospital patients, the probability of improving the condition can reach an increase of almost 2 times.
