Botulinum therapy: treatment of migraines and other headaches

News

Chronic migraine is a neurological disease in which headaches occur 15 or more days a month for more than 3 months. From a medical point of view, this is not just a "severe headache", but an independent disease associated with increased excitability of nerve cells of the brain, requiring preventive treatment.

How it feels:

  • Frequent and debilitating headache
  • The pain is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, intolerance to bright light and loud sounds
  • Decrease in the effectiveness of painkillers: over time, conventional pills cease to help, and their frequent use by itself can provoke new attacks.
  • Even when the pain subsides, there remains a feeling of "weakness", weakness and fog in the head

Constant pain prevents you from working, making plans and communicating. A person is forced to live in constant fear of the next attack, which leads to social isolation, anxiety and depression.

One of the effective methods of treating chronic migraine is botulinum therapy.

  • Botulinum toxin is administered by a specially developed technique in the form of a series of microinjections into the muscles of the head, neck and shoulder girdle. The drug blocks the release of substances involved in the formation of a pain signal. This is not just muscle relaxation, but an effect on the pain transmission system itself. The effect accumulates and usually manifests itself 10-14 days after the procedure, lasting on average up to 6 months.

  • Botulinum therapy shows high efficiency in the treatment of chronic migraine. In most patients, the number of days with headache per month is significantly reduced, the intensity of attacks decreases and the need for painkillers decreases. This allows patients to regain control of their lives.
