MCSC patient history: comprehensive treatment of rectal cancer at high risks
NewsToday we are telling the story of our patient — Pavel Vladimirovich, 54 years old. He complained of weakness, abdominal pain and blood when defecating.
The examination showed that the tumor of the rectum is adenocarcinoma. The formation was large — up to 6 cm, occupied almost the entire lumen of the intestine and was already bleeding.
The good news is that no distant metastases have been identified. But the situation still remained extremely difficult: morbid obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, high risk of thrombosis.
- The first stage is drug treatment
The patient underwent 14 courses of chemotherapy at #Mkntsloginova.
It was possible to stabilize the tumor process — there was an opportunity for the next step. - The second stage is high—tech surgery
Surgeons of the Coloproctology department of MCSC performed robotic low rectal resection with extended lymphadenectomy.
The operation lasted more than 4 hours.
Severe obesity, complex anatomy and concomitant diseases made the intervention technically difficult. But it was possible to do more than just remove the tumor. Surgeons restored the continuity of the intestine — formed an anastomosis. This made it possible to preserve the organ and the patient's quality of life.
Today Pavel Vladimirovich has returned to a full life and shares his impressions of the treatment in this video.
This story is about:
- At high risks, a solution can be found;
- modern technologies expand the boundaries of what is possible;
- and behind every diagnosis there is always a person who needs a chance.
