MCSC patient history: from oncological diagnosis to life without disease

News

Today we are telling the story of our patient Anna, 46 years old, whom the specialists of the MCSC named after A.S. Loginov helped to cope with one of the most difficult oncological diseases. Thanks to complex treatment and liver transplantation, the disease has not returned for more than four years.

It all started in 2019, when a woman began to worry about discomfort and discomfort in the upper abdomen. During the examination, a formation was found in the liver, which at first was regarded as benign. However, with repeated ultrasound, it turned out that the tumor was rapidly increasing in size — from 8 to 14 centimeters.

To clarify the diagnosis, the patient turned to the MCSC named after A.S. Loginov.  At the Center, she underwent a comprehensive examination, including CT and cytological examination. After discussing the case at a multidisciplinary consultation, the doctors decided to start treatment with transarterial chemoembolization (TCE) and targeted therapy. Thanks to this tactic, it was possible to stop the growth of the tumor and achieve stabilization of the disease.

After an additional examination, which confirmed the absence of the spread of the tumor process, the specialists included the patient in the waiting list for liver transplantation.

In February 2022, surgeons successfully performed orthotopic liver transplantation. The postoperative period passed without complications, and histological examination made it possible to establish the final diagnosis — intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma of the small-flow type.

After the operation, the patient is regularly monitored by the Center's specialists and undergoes follow-up examinations. Today, four years after the transplant, she feels well, leads a habitual lifestyle, and the results of examinations show that the disease has not returned.

This clinical case is an example of how important timely diagnosis, individually selected treatment and teamwork of specialists are. It is this integrated approach that allows you to achieve good results even in the most difficult situations.
