Vladimir Putin awarded the State Prize in the field of science and technology to the Director of MCSC Igor Khatkov

The solemn ceremony of awarding Heroes of Labor and laureates of the 2022 State Prize took place today on Russia Day at the Grand Kremlin Palace. Russian President Vladimir Putin personally received the awardees.

The State prize in the field of science and technology from the hands of the President was received by the Director of the MCSC, the chief oncologist of Moscow, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor.  Igor Khatkov for scientific substantiation and introduction into clinical practice of the concept of minimally invasive surgical treatment of oncological diseases.

The result of the work was a breakthrough achievement in the scientific substantiation and introduction into practice of methods of complex treatment of patients with tumor lesions of the abdominal cavity and retroperitoneal space, including minimally invasive surgical and robotic technologies. 

Academician Igor Khatkov is one of the founders of laparoscopic surgery in oncology. For the first time in Russia, he performed a unique laparoscopic operation for pancreatic cancer. He developed a number of innovative solutions that made it possible to implement minimally traumatic operations in various types of abdominal oncological diseases. The school of oncological surgeons created by him is known all over the world and is one of the leading ones.
