Ulcerative colitis: four surgeries on the road to recovery. MCSC patient history
Today we are telling the story of a patient Anastasia Sergeevna, 31 years old, who has gone through a difficult struggle with a serious illness — ulcerative colitis.
Her first symptoms appeared at the age of 18:
- frequent trips to the toilet;
- stool with an admixture of blood;
- decreased appetite;
- abdominal pain.
Anastasia ignored these alarming signals without telling her parents. After a while, the condition worsened so much that I had to urgently go to the hospital, where I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis.
Several years of drug therapy did not improve the condition, and the first operation took place, during which the doctors removed the entire colon and formed a special reservoir.
Strictly following the recommendations of doctors, the rehabilitation period was difficult: the reservoir was constantly inflamed, high body temperature and multiple stools were observed.
Faced with complications, Anastasia decided to seek help further. At the forum, she met a young man who advised her to contact surgeon Mikhail Alexandrovich Danilov at the MCSC named after A.S. Loginov.
So the second operation was performed by the surgeons of the department of coloproctology (https://mknc.ru/department/19 /) – the reservoir is completely removed and a lifetime stoma is removed. This operation lasted 8 hours and was completed successfully. After her, the girl checked out home, feeling a significant improvement in the quality of life.
After 4 years, pain returned to Anastasia - strictures (narrowing of the intestinal lumen) formed in the stoma area, leading to serious problems with its functioning.
This required a third operation, where doctors removed a new stoma from the opposite side of the abdomen. The problems continued: the stitches did not heal, a fistula formed.
Returning to Moscow, Anastasia again met the help of a team of MCSC specialists. The fourth operation was performed here:
- the stoma was reconstructed by removing the area of the affected intestine along with the fistula;
- the adhesions between the intestines and reproductive organs were eliminated;
- the resulting hernia was removed.
Today our patient feels well and shares her impressions about the treatment at our Center.
