Dysphagia

Dysphagia is a pathological condition in which the act of swallowing is disturbed.

Swallowing disorders are detected in all age groups, however, the incidence increases with age.

Scale for assessing symptoms:

0-no dysphagia (no food restrictions).
1-difficulty swallowing solid food, liquid food does not cause difficulties.
2-the ability to swallow only liquid.
3-difficulty swallowing liquid or saliva.
4-complete dysphagia.

Causes of occurrence: 

  • Esophageal (various, including malignant, diseases of the esophagus and esophageal-gastric junction).
  • Extraesophageal (neurological, endocrinological, otorhinolaryngological and other diseases).

The key task of the diagnostic search for dysphagia is to diagnose diseases that could cause the disorder. The patient's examination should be carried out in a comprehensive manner.
