Breast cyst

Breast cyst (uncomplicated) - a benign disease of the breast, which is a focal pathological formation in the breast in the form of a delimited cavity that is filled with liquid contents. Most often found in women aged 30-50 years. 

Risk factors for breast cysts:

Fluctuations in the level of reproductive hormones (in particular, leading to an excess of estrogen in the body).

Symptoms of a breast cyst:
- feeling of discomfort, soreness in the mammary gland
- a touch-sensitive seal in the mammary gland

At the same time, many women do not notice any symptoms.

List of necessary examinations:

• Consultation with an oncologist-mammologist, including discussion of disturbing symptoms, examination of the mammary glands
• Digital mammography (from 39-40 years old). With a radiologically dense background, a mammologist may recommend breast tomosynthesis
• Ultrasound examination of the mammary glands (ultrasound)
• In case of detection of cysts that concern the patient according to the examination data, it is possible to perform a puncture fine-needle aspiration biopsy (PTAB) under ultrasound control with subsequent cytological examination of the aspirate, regardless of the size of the detected formation
• If filled cysts with sizes of 3 cm or more are detected, the mammologist may recommend PTAB under ultrasound control with subsequent cytological examination of the aspirate

The above-mentioned methods of examination do not require special training.

Treatment 
Conservative treatment is selected individually in each specific case. PTAB under ultrasound control is a diagnostic procedure and a therapeutic procedure (evacuation of liquid contents).

Forecast
The prognosis for uncomplicated breast cysts is favorable. The presence of breast cysts does not significantly increase the risk of developing breast cancer in the future.
