Saint's Metabolic Triad

The metabolic triad of Saint is a combination of diaphragmatic hernia, cholelithiasis, and diverticulosis of the large intestine.

A study conducted in the Department of Endocrinology of the MCSC showed that in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, the metabolic triad of Saint is detected in 48% of cases.

The metabolic triad of Saint is a combination of diaphragmatic hernia, cholelithiasis, and diverticulosis of the large intestine.

In the clinical picture, about 2/3 of patients have signs of cholelithiasis, 1/3-diaphragmatic hernia, diverticulosis of the colon is asymptomatic.

The diagnosis of Saint's syndrome is based on a combination of symptoms of gallstone disease and diaphragmatic hernia, as well as the detection of intestinal diverticulosis.

Treatment is reduced to the treatment of each disease that is a component of the syndrome.

The prognosis depends on the course of the diseases that make up the syndrome.

One of the reasons for the development of the metabolic Triad of Saint is microcirculatory disorders.

The assessment of microcirculation is carried out using a complex method (laser Doppler flowmetry) and oxidative metabolism (laser fluorescence spectroscopy).
