Hereditary colon cancer
NewsColon cancer or colorectal cancer (RTC) is a different cellular structure and localization of malignant tumors of the colon and rectum.
RTK is one of the most common forms of cancer worldwide and annually occupies a leading position in the structure of the incidence of malignant neoplasms (ZNO).
It is known that about 3-5% of cases of RTC occur due to hereditary predisposition.
To date, a large number of genes have been identified, disorders in which can lead to the development of RTK as part of hereditary tumor syndromes.
Among these syndromes, the most common are Lynch syndrome (or hereditary non-polypous colon cancer), familial adenomatous polyposis, Peitz-Yegers syndrome ,juvenile polyposis, and others.
Each individual syndrome has its own clinical features, which have a great influence on the choice of treatment tactics and subsequent prevention.
In addition to the differences, there are also common featurescharacteristic of each syndrome, namely:
- the occurrence of ZNO at a young age (up to 40-50 years);
- a combination of several independent colon tumors or tumors of other localizations;
- the presence of several cases of RTK and other tumors in the family history;
- increased risks of developing second primary ZNO in other organs.
All of the above signs are indications for seeking the advice of a geneticistwho:
- assign the required volume of molecular genetic research;
- make recommendations for further treatment;
- assess the risks of developing other tumors and make an individual prevention plan;
- will determine the need for DNA diagnostics of the next of kin.
A timely diagnosis will allow you to achieve the best results of treatment and a high chance of a full recovery!
