Vacuum-assisted breast biopsy

News

Fibroadenoma is the most common benign breast tumor in young women.

  • The cause of its occurrence is currently considered to be a violation of the hormonal balance, in the development of which mutagenic and hereditary factors play a role.

Fibroadenoma develops from epithelial and connective tissue and in the vast majority of cases does not become malignant.

  • Nevertheless, its presence certainly deserves attention because of its wide prevalence, impact on the quality of life and mental health of women.

So, every year more than 1,500 patients with this diagnosis come to the Mammological Center of MCSC.

As an alternative to the traditional surgical operation, our doctors use a modern high-tech method of treating this pathology: vacuum-assisted biopsy (VAB).

Advantages:

  • complete removal
  • low traumatism
  • high cosmetic effect

Experts recommend removal of fibroadenomas in patients with the presence of such risk factors:

  • mutations in the BRCA 1, BRCA 2 genes
  • breast cancer and ovarian cancer in close relatives
  • with fibroadenomas increasing in size during dynamic observation

Also, indications for treatment in the presence of fibroadenoma may be:

  • pregnancy planning or IVF procedure (in vitro fertilization)
  • anxiety and increased anxiety

Let's give an example of the story of our patient.

A 36-year-old woman applied to a Mammology center for a consultation. According to the results of the examination, she was diagnosed with fibroadenoma in the mammary gland.

  • She was recommended to have a removal because she was planning IVF.

As a result, the manipulation took about 20 minutes, after which the patient immediately went home.

It is important to note that after a vacuum-assisted biopsy, rehabilitation is not required, and pregnancy planning can begin in two weeks.
