MCSC patient history: from the first symptoms to persistent remission in Crohn's disease

News

The first symptoms

In March 2025, a 23-year—old young man had severe pain in the right lower abdomen, frequent loose stools - up to 12 times a day with an admixture of mucus and an increase in body temperature to 38.2 ° C. At the same time, he began to worry about small ulcers in his mouth and painful seals on the skin of his shins.

Due to the rapid deterioration of the patient's condition, he was hospitalized in April in the Department of Intestinal Pathology of the MCSC named after A.S. Loginov. A comprehensive examination confirmed that the inflammation affected not only the intestines, but also the entire body.

Comprehensive diagnostics made it possible to establish an accurate diagnosis

In blood tests, doctors revealed anemia, a pronounced inflammatory process, as well as signs of malnutrition, which often occur in severe Crohn's disease.

During the colonoscopy, specialists diagnosed characteristic changes: the intestinal mucosa was severely inflamed, covered with multiple ulcers and bled even with a light touch. This picture indicated a high activity of the disease.

Ultrasound examination showed that the inflammation had spread to the entire thickness of the intestinal wall, and MSCT-enterography confirmed the diagnosis of high—activity Crohn's disease.

The disease was manifested not only by intestinal damage. Due to systemic inflammation, the patient developed painful sores in the oral cavity and dense inflamed nodes on the skin of the shins - the so—called extra-intestinal manifestations of Crohn's disease.

Modern therapy has had a quick effect

After discussing the results of the examination, the specialists prescribed modern targeted immunosuppressive therapy to the patient.

Positive dynamics became noticeable after a week of treatment. The patient completely stopped abdominal pain, stool returned to normal, manifestations of erythema nodosum and aphthous stomatitis began to disappear, and general well-being improved significantly.

A year later — persistent remission

12 months after the start of treatment, the patient continues to be under the supervision of specialists of the Department of intestinal pathology.

A follow-up examination performed in April 2026 confirmed the achievement of clinical, laboratory and endoscopic remission.

During colonoscopy, instead of active inflammation, only cicatricial changes in the ascending colon were detected — a sign of a successfully stopped process.

This case clearly demonstrates how important it is to contact specialists in a timely manner and start treatment as early as possible. Modern methods of therapy allow not only to eliminate the symptoms of the disease, but also to achieve long-term remission, prevent the development of complications and maintain a high quality of life for young patients.

Why it is important to be observed by specialists

Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic inflammatory bowel diseases that require constant monitoring. Even with good health, it is necessary to undergo regular follow-up examinations in order to assess the effectiveness of treatment in a timely manner and, if necessary, adjust therapy.

The Department of Intestinal Pathology of MCSC named after A.S. Loginov has accumulated many years of experience in managing patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. Thanks to a multidisciplinary approach, the use of modern diagnostic methods and the use of innovative drug therapy, specialists help patients achieve stable remission and maintain their usual lifestyle.
