Adenocarcinoma of the lungs. MCSC patient history

News

A 78-year-old patient applied to the pulmonology department of MCSC. She was worried about:

  • cough with viscous sputum
  • shortness of breath when climbing to the 3rd floor
  • general weakness

She had no serious lung diseases, never smoked.

  • The woman told the doctor that in 2022 she was diagnosed with cervical cancer (adenocarcinoma), underwent surgery and a course of radiation therapy.

Before treatment, she underwent a comprehensive examination (multispiral computed tomography of the chest organs – MSCT OGK), where lung tissue damage (interstitial changes) was detected. Doctors recommended observation.

But since August 2023, I have been worried about coughing, shortness of breath during physical exertion, climbing stairs. The doctor prescribed a course of antibacterial therapy.

  • As a result, the cough became smaller, but still persisted, after which the patient turned to the MCSC.

During the control examination (MSCT of the chest organs), the previously detected changes in the lungs increased in volume, and our doctors decided to be hospitalized in the pulmonology department: a more in-depth examination using invasive methods was required.

A probable diagnosis could be pneumonia, secondary (metastatic) lung damage, or lung cancer.

  • Specialists performed MSCT of the chest organs with contrast, fibrobronchoscopy, cryobiopsy and bronchoalveolar lavage (a special solution for studying the condition of the lungs), then transferred the obtained materials for morphological examination to the laboratory.

The results showed: adenocarcinoma of the lungs, and the connection of its occurrence with adenocarcinoma of the cervix, which was previously detected, was established.

Thus, thanks to a comprehensive examination and a comprehensive approach to diagnosis, it was possible to make an accurate diagnosis.

Today the patient is referred to an oncologist for treatment.
