Preparation for research: bronchoscopy, laryngoscopy, pharyngoscopy, rhinoscopy

News

Proper preparation for endoscopic examinations is very important.

  • This helps the doctor to make an accurate diagnosis of the condition of internal organs and prescribe tactics for further observation or treatment.

In the MCSC Diagnostic Endoscopy Department, our specialists perform:

  • bronchoscopy
  • laryngoscopy
  • pharyngoscopy
  • rhinoscopy

They are performed using a special thin tube (endoscope), with which the doctor examines the airways and, if necessary, performs a biopsy.

How to prepare for these studies?

If it is held in the morning:

  • the last solid meal may be the night before
  • in the morning you can drink some water, sweet tea (but no later than 2 hours before the procedure)

If the study is in the afternoon:

  • the last intake of a small amount of solid food is possible in the morning, but no later than 6 hours in advance
  • you can drink water no later than 2 hours in advance

If you are taking vital drugs: normalizing blood pressure, heart rate, hormonal, etc., then you must take them on the day of the study (no later than 2 hours in advance).

  • If you have high blood pressure before the procedure, its implementation may be canceled due to the risk of complications.

If you are taking drugs that affect blood clotting, you should discuss with your doctor the need to cancel them before the study.

Before the study, be sure to tell your doctor and nurse if you have allergies to medications (in particular, lidocaine).

If you have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or bronchial asthma, we recommend that you take with you a spray can of the medication you are using.

Also, do not forget to bring the results of previous studies with you if they are not available in the EMIAS system.

Be healthy!
