Acne as a sign of gastrointestinal diseases

News

A 34-year-old patient P. came to the gastroenterologist for a consultation with complaints of rashes on the skin of the face. During the conversation, it also turned out that for a long time she was worried about periodic abdominal pain, which occurs mainly after eating, flatulence and bloating, irregular stools with a delay of up to 3 days.

A few months earlier, the patient had consulted a dermatologist. After the examination, the doctor prescribed local treatment. But the cause of the ailment remained unclear.

The therapy prescribed by the dermatologist was ineffective, and the patient was referred to a gastroenterologist. It was necessary to find out whether the patient had any diseases of the gastrointestinal tract that could be the cause of the rash.

It is worth noting that acne (acne, acne) is a chronic skin disease that occurs as a result of blockage of the sebaceous glands and increased production of sebum.

It can be caused by two groups of factors:

  • exogenous. For example, improper selection and use of cosmetics, constant pressure or friction of the skin with clothing, violation of sleep and wakefulness, improper nutrition, unfavorable environmental conditions;
  • endogenous, such as hereditary predisposition, hormonal disorders, infectious diseases, chronic diseases of the internal organs, including the gastrointestinal tract.

In the MCSC, the patient underwent a comprehensive examination, as a result, she was diagnosed with erosive gastritis, which developed as a result of the extensive spread of the H. Pylori bacterium in the stomach. Additionally, the patient underwent a respiratory hydrogen test, which showed excessive bacterial growth of opportunistic flora in the small intestine.

Based on the data obtained, our gastroenterologists have selected the appropriate treatment regimen, including recommendations for therapeutic nutrition.

A month after the end of therapy, the patient began to feel much better, the symptoms that bothered her disappeared. A breath test revealed the absence of H. Pylori. But the main criterion for the effectiveness of treatment for the patient was the long-awaited disappearance of acne, which had been bothering her for so long.

It is important to note that the occurrence of acne can be associated with many reasons. Not always treatment with a dermatologist or cosmetologist brings the long-awaited effect. Often, the disease is a manifestation of pathological changes occurring inside the body. Patients are recommended to be monitored not only by a dermatologist, but also by other specialists, such as an endocrinologist, an allergist-immunologist, and a gastroenterologist.
