Intestinal angiodysplasia

Intestinal angiodysplasia is a rare disease characterized by the pathological development and structure of the vessels of the intestinal wall.

Causes of occurrence:

There is a distinction between congenital angiodysplasia, in which the pathological development of the vessels of the intestinal wall is formed in the prenatal period, and acquired, the cause of which is the acquired pathological expansion of the intestinal vessels. The latter develops as a result of spasms of the smooth muscles of the intestine, resulting in the expansion of blood vessels and capillaries of the intestinal wall.

If the pathological changes are localized in one part of the intestinal wall , this is a limited process. Changes found in several parts of the intestine are called common.

Clinical symptomsthat allow you to suspect the disease:

  • general weakness,
  • frequent recurrent intestinal bleeding,
  • decreased blood hemoglobin (anemia).

The clinical picture of congenital angiodysplasia is characterized by the appearance of symptoms in early childhood. Characteristic signs of acquired angiodysplasia are its development in older people, frequent discharge of blood from the anus after physical exertion. With an objective examination of the patient, it is impossible to determine the cause of bleeding, since the changes characteristic of acquired angiodysplasia are localized in the lumen of the intestine.

If you have these symptoms, you should consult a doctor who will assess the situation and prescribe an examination.

To establish the diagnosis, it is necessary to conduct an endoscopic examination of the intestine (colonoscopy, enteroscopy).

Acquired angiodysplasia during endoscopic examination looks like formations of the mucous membrane of a rounded shape, bright red or cherry color, not protruding into the lumen of the intestine, from which convoluted, moderately dilated vessels diverge. The formation is easily injured with the appearance of blood droplets.

The danger of the disease is that with repeated bleeding, weakness increases, persistent anemia develops, and performance decreases.

Treatment:

surgical treatment - resection of the affected segment of the intestine.

In the Moscow Clinical Scientific and Practical Center named after A. S. Loginov, the examination and treatment of patients with angiodysplasia is carried out jointly by gastroenterologists, endoscopists, and coloproctologists.

Do not delay your visit to the specialists of our Center. This will help to diagnose this condition in a timely manner and choose the right treatment tactics.
