Breast lipoma
Breast lipoma is a benign process characterized by the presence of a formation in the subcutaneous adipose tissue with a predominant content of adipose tissue.
The causes of lipoma are not fully known. It is possible that they may be caused by a previous breast injury. However, it is not clear whether the injury is the cause of the lipoma formation, or whether the lipoma is detected as a result of a medical examination of this area.
- Genetic (hereditary) conditions, such as Gardner's syndrome and hereditary multiple lipomatosis, cause a person to form multiple lipomas
- The most common lipomas occur in patients aged 40-60 years
Often, breast lipomas are asymptomatic and are an accidental finding during a routine instrumental examination.
In some cases, the following manifestations may occur:
- painless, palpable, mobile formation in the mammary gland
- feeling of discomfort, soreness in the mammary gland
List of necessary examinations:
- consultation with an oncologist-mammologist, including discussion of disturbing symptoms, examination of the mammary glands
- digital mammography (from 39-40 years old). With a radiologically dense background, a mammologist may recommend breast tomosynthesis
- ultrasound examination of the mammary glands (ultrasound)
The above methods of examination do not require special training.
In some cases, on the recommendation of an oncologist-mammologist, it is possible to perform a puncture fine-needle aspiration biopsy (PTAB) under ultrasound control with subsequent cytological examination.
Treatment
In the absence of disturbing symptoms, the main treatment is dynamic follow-up, which includes regular follow-up by an oncologist-mammologist and the necessary studies (ultrasound, mammography).
The question of surgical treatment is decided on an individual basis, taking into account the data obtained as a result of a comprehensive examination.
Forecast
The current forecast is favorable. Breast lipomas are not associated with an increased risk of breast cancer.
