Arthromedullary bypass surgery

Osteoarthritis is the most common chronic progressive joint disease that affects more than 10-15% of the world's population. It leads to degenerative changes in joints and cartilage tissue.

The main symptoms:

  • pain during exercise;
  • restriction of movements in the joint;
  • feeling of stiffness, feeling of "crunch";
  • pain after a long rest is "starting".

Surgical intervention is necessary when the joint is greatly changed, it is difficult for a person to move, he experiences constant pain. To preserve the knee joint, it is possible to perform arthromedullary bypass surgery. This operation allows you not to replace the joint and at the same time preserve its function.

WHAT IS THIS METHOD?

Arthromedullary bypass surgery is an innovative treatment method based on the use of the patient's own intraosseous contents as a lubricant for the treatment of the affected joint.

Significantly reduces pain in the joint, thanks to:

  • reduction of intraosseous pressure in the bones forming the affected joint;
  • blocking the formation of pro-inflammatory cytokines by bone fat antioxidants that cause pain and destruction of joint tissues.

Improves lubrication of the diseased joint:

  • lipids of bone fat facilitate the sliding of articular surfaces, improve joint mobility, and prevent wear of articular cartilage;

It has an antioxidant and protective effect

  • fat-soluble antioxidants of bone fat inhibit the formation of toxic free radicals (NO•, R•, NO) that destroy cartilage tissue.

Stimulates the healing of affected areas of articular cartilage:

  • The precursor cells of the bone marrow cartilage tissue coming through the shunt accelerate the healing of articular cartilage defects, smoothing the articular surfaces.

WHAT IS A SHUNT?

This is a small tube made of biocompatible titanium alloy. At one end of the tube there is a thread for screwing the shunt into the bone cavity. It's hollow inside. On the surface of the tube there are many lateral openings through which grease enters the joint cavity.

It is installed in the affected joint and connects the bone marrow and joint cavity, ensuring that the components of its own bone marrow enter the joint cavity, which have a therapeutic effect on the affected joint.

ADVANTAGES OF THE METHOD

  • An effective method of treating arthrosis of stage 2-3, ensuring the safety of the joint.
  • Low risk of complications: the implant is made of high-quality titanium and does not have toxic and allergic properties.
  • The operation is low-traumatic, performed arthroscopically, through minimal incisions.
  • No general anesthesia is required.
  • The postoperative period does not require prolonged hospitalization.
  • A short period of rehabilitation.

INDICATIONS FOR SHUNT INSTALLATION

The knee joint

  • osteoarthritis 2-3 stages
  • long-term pain syndrome (more than 6 months)
  • post-traumatic changes in articular cartilage
  • waiting period for joint replacement
  • patients who cannot or do not want to perform joint replacement

Ankle joint

  • osteoarthritis 2-3 stages
  • long-term pain syndrome (more than 6 months)
  • impingement syndrome of the anterior and posterior parts of the joint
  • the waiting period for prosthetics
  • patients who cannot or do not want to perform joint replacement

HOW DOES SHUNT IMPLANTATION WORK

  • Before the operation, the orthopedic surgeon examines the patient.
  • X-ray images are taken.
  • The indications for this intervention or contraindications are being clarified.
  • A complex of clinical and laboratory studies is carried out.
  • The operation is performed under spinal anesthesia, anesthesia is not needed.
  • Implantation is carried out using a special arthroscopic technique and lasts 40-45 minutes.

After arthromedullary bypass surgery, patients recover quickly, return to their usual life and even play sports.
