Esophageal manometry

Esophageal manometry is a study of esophageal motility, revealing esophageal achalasia, diffuse esophagospasm, scleroderma.

Indications:complaints about difficulty in passing food,

  • complaints of chest pain,
  • before surgery for achalasia, hernia of the esophageal opening of the diffraction
  • before daily pH monitoring.

Preparation for the study: The study is carried out strictly on an empty stomach in order to exclude aspiration of gastric contents during the procedure.

  • If there is a suspicion of achalasia, then the duration of fasting is 20-24 hours, and only liquid food can be taken for 3 days.
  • Bring the EGDS protocol with you so that contraindications can be excluded.
  • 3 days before the study, all prokinetics, antispasmodics, euphyllin, theophylline are canceled.
  • If you have hypertension, then it is necessary to take antihypertensive drugs before the procedure for 1-2 hours. 

Description of the study: The study is carried out on an empty stomach in a prone position, a probe about 4 mm thick is installed in a sitting position.

To assess peristalsis, a standard sip of 5 ml of water in an amount of 10 times is used. The result is given after decryption on the same day.
