Bacteria VS Virus. What do you need to know?

How does a virus differ from a bacterium?

It would seem that both are pathogens of diseases. However, the difference is enormous! Bacteria are single-celled living organisms that can provide all the stages of their life independently. And viruses are parasites. They can't survive on their own, so viruses use other people's cells (human, animal, and even plant cells). And while the virus is outside the living cell, it exists in the form of a viral particle. And, unlike a bacterial cell, the structure of a viral particle is extremely simple: genetic material (DNA or RNA) and a protective shell. How does the virus work?

Viruses cannot reproduce by cell division, so they use living cells to produce their new copies. To carry out its" insidious plan", the virus first needs to attach itself to the surface of the host cell, this happens through the formation of a specific connection between the proteins of the viral envelope and the receptors on the surface of the living host cell. Next, the virus enters the cell, releases its DNA or RNA. Then there is an increase in copies of this genetic material, the assembly of new viral particles and the exit of the virus from the cell.

Why did the new virus appear?

Genetic changes in viruses can occur for various reasons. And sometimes these changes will allow you to get benefits. For example, resistance to antiviral drugs. In this case, it is assumed that the original carrier was bats. Then why did people start getting sick with the corona virus? There was a mutation (a genetic change) that allowed the virus to attack human cells.

What will help counter the pandemic?

Currently, laboratories around the world are developing and researching not only drugs against the new virus, but also vaccines.

Please observe all safety measures!

Take care of yourself, your family and friends!
