This opinion was expressed by the chief freelance oncologist of the Moscow Department of Health, Director of the MCSC named after A.S. Loginov Igor Khatkov during the panel discussion "Prospects for the development of oncological care for children and adults", which was held at the headquarters of public support for "United Russia".
"The pediatric oncology service is an example for our services in terms of the validity of decision – making, their consistency, methodology, administrative approaches," Igor Khatkov said. He also noted that it should be borne in mind that the children's cancer service works with fewer patients and diagnoses are presented in fewer forms.
The participants of the discussion emphasized the importance of early diagnosis in the treatment of cancer in both children and adults. It is the diagnosis at an early stage that is the cornerstone that provides a significant reduction in mortality from cancer.
Doctors agreed that the centralization of cancer care in Moscow, the development of the united outpatient structure for cancer treatment in Moscow, the implementation of a special program that deals with the registration, accurate accounting and management of cancer patients – the cancer register – will create the best cancer care service in the world.
