Hamartoma of the breast. The patient's history of FGM

News

patient n., 40 years old, applied to the MCSC women's health clinic.

  • She was 36 weeks pregnant and needed a second opinion.

Earlier, in another clinic, doctors found a formation in her right mammary gland and recommended surgery and removal of the tumor.

Of course, this worried the patient very much, given her situation. At the same time, she did not have any unpleasant sensations. Our doctors conducted a comprehensive examination – ultrasound and mammography – which showed that the patient really has an oval-shaped formation in the right mammary gland measuring 5.5x3.0 cm, probably benign.

She also underwent a trepan biopsy, and laboratory specialists confirmed that the patient had a breast hamartoma. This is a fairly rare disease, which is characterized by the presence of a voluminous benign formation inside the breast with a different combination of fibrous, glandular and adipose tissue.

  •

It is more common in women over 35 years of age.The exact cause of hamartoma is unknown, and cases of its occurrence are usually random.

But among the risk factors, experts single out heredity.

  • Even at the first appointment, the patient said that her mother had ovarian cancer.

Therefore, she was recommended to undergo a medical genetic blood test for mutations in the genes responsible for the development of breast cancer. As a result, no deviations were found.

  • Thus, the operation was not required, our patient was recommended a follow-up examination after childbirth and the end of lactation.
