Inflammatory bowel diseases: consultation of an enterologist at MCSC

News

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, which are represented by two forms:

  • ulcerative colitis (UC) – affects the colon and is characterized by inflammation of the mucous membrane;
  • Crohn's disease (CD) – affects any part of the gastrointestinal tract: from the oral cavity to the anus.

Today IBD is one of the most serious problems in gastroenterology:

  • the causes of the disease are unknown;
  • variety of extra-intestinal symptoms;
  • frequent relapses, dangerous complications;
  • the difficulty of selecting an effective treatment.

It is important to note that a lot of time often passes from the moment the first symptoms appear to the diagnosis, since there is still no gold standard for the diagnosis of IBD in the world. Therefore, strict adherence to the diagnostic algorithm and the participation of specialists with extensive experience in managing patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease is necessary.
