MCSC Treatment: Burnout and Art therapy

News

Today we will talk about how art therapy can help with emotional burnout.

Studies have shown that art programs can reduce symptoms of burnout and fatigue:

  • voltage;
  • Anger;
  • depression;
  • fatigue.

According to Drexel University, creative activities effectively reduce the level of stress hormones, regardless of a person's artistic abilities.

75% of the study participants had a decrease in cortisol levels after 45 minutes of creative work. At the same time, there was no correlation between stress reduction and the participant's level of artistic experience.

Another study was aimed at studying the art-therapeutic method when dealing with emotional burnout of medical personnel in two cancer centers in Italy.

The results showed a statistically significant reduction in the level of burnout after art therapy sessions.

What are the benefits of art therapy?

Art therapy is a gentle way of psychological work with difficult conditions. Sometimes talking about problems is harder than drawing or sculpting them. And this is also something that many lack, because creative work can stimulate, in general, a creative attitude to the difficulties of life.

Also, working in a group creates an exchange of thoughts and feelings, and this helps to relieve tension and increase trust in the team.

How does art therapy help?

Based on practical exercises, using various artistic techniques, seminars for medical professionals are aimed at developing imagination and emotional intelligence, stimulating the ability to express one's thoughts and feelings, reducing anxiety and increasing self-esteem.

At the MCSC named after A.S. Loginov, art therapy techniques are regularly used to prevent burnout among doctors and nurses. Of course, it is better to work with a certified specialist, but they can also be used at home on their own.

Psychologists of the Center for Personalized Medicine take classes at the MCSC. You can sign up for the training by calling +7 (905) 525-50-05.
