A rare complication in the treatment of ulcerative colitis
NewsPatient M., 42 years old, with a diagnosis of Ulcerative colitis was observed at the MCSC named after A.S. Loginov since 2017. She was regularly examined and received mesalazine drug therapy constantly.
In the spring of 2021 there were complaints about:
- an increase in body temperature to 38.5 C;
- cough;
- general weakness.
A comprehensive examination of the body was carried out. Computed tomography of the chest revealed multiple rounded seals of both lungs. The patient is referred for consultation to a phthisiatrician and an oncologist. No data confirming tuberculosis and oncological process have been established. Specialists prescribed antibacterial therapy, but after the end of the course of treatment, cough and fever reappeared.
The patient was hospitalized in MCSC named after A.S. Loginov. A consultation was held with the participation of pulmonologists, at which it was assumed that changes in the lungs are associated with taking the medicine – mesalazine. The drug is canceled. After 2 weeks, a second CT scan of the lungs showed positive dynamics in the form of a decrease in infiltration of lung tissue.
Thus, lung damage was confirmed in the patient, frolicking while taking mesalazine. Due to the inability to continue therapy with these drugs and the continuing activity of ulcerative colitis, she was prescribed genetically engineered biological therapy. 
The MCSC named after A.S. Loginov has accumulated extensive experience in managing patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, taking into account a multidisciplinary approach and the use of the most modern methods of diagnosis and treatment.
