Gastroenterologist of the Department of Treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases MCSC named after A.S. LoginovBabayan A.F. made a report on the results of the ongoing study "Adherence of patients with ulcerative colitis to treatment" at the All-Russian scientific and practical conference "The First Baikal Coloproctological Forum of Young Scientists". The event was held in Irkutsk on July 28-29, 2022.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease) are chronic autoimmune diseases of the intestine. The cause of development is unknown, recovery is impossible, the course of the disease is characterized by periods of remission and exacerbations. Therefore, the concept of permanent lifelong medication intake is a cornerstone in IBD therapy. The treatment strategy is based on the use of drugs:

  • 5-aminosalicylates;
  • glucocorticosteroids;
  • immunomodulators;
  • biological preparations of anti-cytokine action.

Over the past 40 years, scientists have been actively studying the adherence to therapy of patients with chronic diseases, including IBD. According to the literature, adherence to the treatment of patients with IBD is very poor, which was also confirmed in the scientific work of Babayan A.F. An important aspect of this problem is the active timely assessment of adherence and the development of ways to improve it, since low adherence to therapy is associated with frequent hospitalizations, disease progression and the development of complications.
